Prompt Engineering — core rules

1Anatomy of a strong prompt

  • Role — who the AI should be
  • Task — what it should do
  • Context — under what conditions
  • Format — the shape of the result
  • Example — a sample (optional)

2Precision: 4 questions

  • For whom? — audience
  • What? — type of result
  • How much? — length
  • How? — style/tone

3Instruction: do + don't

  • Say what to do
  • Also say what not to do
  • For example: don't write an intro
  • Avoid unnecessary words

4Giving examples (few-shot)

  • Give 2-3 samples
  • In the same format: input → output
  • Leave a new input at the end

5Chain-of-Thought

  • On a complex problem: reason step by step
  • Ask for the intermediate steps
  • Ask for the final answer separately

6Format control

  • Ask for a list / table / heading
  • Set the length (120 words)
  • For automation: JSON ONLY

7Error protection

  • If you don't know, say "I don't know"
  • Ask for a source and verify it
  • Confirm important facts yourself

8Safety and iteration

  • Password, national ID, card — don't share
  • The first answer is not the final one
  • Ask → evaluate → fix
