Prompt Engineering — core rules
1Anatomy of a strong prompt
- Role — who the AI should be
- Task — what it should do
- Context — under what conditions
- Format — the shape of the result
- Example — a sample (optional)
2Precision: 4 questions
- For whom? — audience
- What? — type of result
- How much? — length
- How? — style/tone
3Instruction: do + don't
- Say what to do
- Also say what not to do
- For example:
don't write an intro - Avoid unnecessary words
4Giving examples (few-shot)
- Give 2-3 samples
- In the same format: input → output
- Leave a new input at the end
5Chain-of-Thought
- On a complex problem:
reason step by step - Ask for the intermediate steps
- Ask for the final answer separately
6Format control
- Ask for a list / table / heading
- Set the length (
120 words) - For automation:
JSON ONLY
7Error protection
If you don't know, say "I don't know"- Ask for a source and verify it
- Confirm important facts yourself
8Safety and iteration
- Password, national ID, card — don't share
- The first answer is not the final one
- Ask → evaluate → fix
