The cut point is approximate: it depends on screen width, font and letter widths. Put the important words first so they are visible everywhere.

How the score is calculated

Each criterion gives points, 100 in total. If no keyword is entered, that criterion is skipped and the remaining 75 points are scaled to 100. If the title is longer than 100 characters or contains < >, the score is capped at 40.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters can a YouTube title have?

YouTube allows up to 100 characters. In search and on phones titles are usually cut after about 60-70 characters, so put the most important part first.

What is the ideal length?

For most videos 40-70 characters works well: enough to say what it is about and almost fully visible on phones. It is not a strict rule; a short, clear title can work too.

Does a higher score mean more views?

There is no guarantee. The score is not the YouTube algorithm, only a guide. Views depend heavily on the thumbnail, topic, watch time and audience.

Why does clickbait lower the score?

One strong word is fine. Several shock words make a title look untrustworthy, and if the promise is not kept, viewers leave quickly.
