Frequently asked questions
How do YouTube timestamps (chapters) work?
If you list times and names line by line in the description, YouTube splits the video into chapters. Requirements: the first is 0:00, at least 3 chapters, times in ascending order and each chapter at least 10 seconds long.
Why are my chapters not showing?
Usually one rule is broken: no 0:00, fewer than 3 chapters, or a chapter shorter than 10 seconds. This tool points out exactly those errors. On some videos YouTube may also turn chapters off on its own.
How long can a description be?
YouTube allows up to 5000 characters. The < and > characters cannot be used in a description.
How many hashtags should I use?
3-5 relevant hashtags are enough. The first 3 may show above the title. With more than 15, YouTube ignores all hashtags on the video.
Where is my draft stored?
Only in your browser (localStorage). If you close and reopen the page, the text stays. Nothing is sent to a server.
