Frequently asked questions

Where does the data come from?

Our server reads the public YouTube video page (youtube.com/watch) and takes the title, description, tags, views and other data from it. No API key or account is needed. Results are cached for 15 minutes, so the numbers may be slightly out of date.

Why does it sometimes fail?

YouTube changes its page layout from time to time and sometimes limits requests from servers or asks for verification. When that happens the tool shows an error or some fields (such as likes) stay empty. Please try again a bit later. Private, deleted and age-restricted videos cannot be analyzed.

Why can't I see any tags?

Tags are only visible if the creator added them. YouTube itself says tags play a minimal role in video discovery and are mostly useful for commonly misspelled words. The tag limit is 500 characters in total; a tag with spaces is counted with quotes, so our count is approximate.

How are timestamps checked?

We take the time at the start of each description line (for example 0:00, 2:15, 1:05:30). For YouTube to show chapters, the first one must be 0:00, there must be at least 3, they must be in ascending order and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long. Even when the rules are met, YouTube may not show chapters on some videos.

How are average daily views calculated?

The view count is divided by the number of days since upload. This is a simple average: most videos get the bulk of their views in the first days, so current daily views may differ.

How is a Short detected?

If the video is vertical (taller than wide) and up to 3 minutes long, we mark it as a Short. This is an estimate, since the video page does not state it separately.

Why is there no SEO score?

YouTube decides who sees a video and how often based on many factors, and that can't be expressed accurately as one number. So we only show measurable things (length, limits, timestamp rules) and give specific tips.
